Facing the reality of federal prison is daunting, and choosing the right consultant to help you through this difficult time can be one of the most important decisions you make in your criminal justice journey. With so many federal prison consultant options available, it’s natural to wonder what sets me apart from the rest and whether you even need a consultant at all.
Do You Need a Prison Consultant?
Though it may seem like an obvious question, it’s an important one, because it’s important to understand what a prison consultant does and if one can be helpful in your situation.
In a word, prison consultants provide support. A quality prison consultant will help with concrete sentence mitigation including working with your legal counsel to put the best foot forward to your judge, preparing you for your pre-sentencing interview, and ensuring you understand the opportunities to earn additional time credits during your incarceration. A consultant also offers help and support in the emotional and practical preparations for time away: ensuring that you fully understand daily life in prison to make for the best outcome for both you and your loved ones.
And though a prison consultant is in no way to be relied upon for direct legal advice, it can be invaluable to have that voice at the table as a supplement to your legal defense team. One way to think about it is that your lawyer is there to get you through sentencing, and a prison consultant is there to help you get through prison and back home with your loved ones.
Most can benefit from the services of a prison consultant so the question is often less “would I benefit from the help of a prison consultant as I prepare for federal prison,” and more about finding the right prison consultant for you. That’s the purpose of this blog post: to help give you an idea of who you could work with when you work with Sam Mangel.
Personal Experience: I’ve Been in Your Shoes
Some prison consultants have only read about the federal prison system or observed it from the perspective of a lawyer or someone who works for the Bureau of Prisons. I, however, have lived through it. In 2016, I was convicted of fraud and, to my surprise, I was sentenced to 60 months despite entering the courthouse that day expecting probation.
To add insult to injury, I was remanded directly into custody, given no time to prepare for the time away from my family and loved ones. I was thrown directly into the deep-end.
Despite such challenging circumstances, I worked diligently to learn how to mitigate my sentence and ultimately only served 20 months. During that time, I gained firsthand knowledge of what it takes to not only survive but also navigate the system effectively. I’ve shared more about this experience on the Nightmare Success podcast with Brent Cassity.
The short of it is that I understand the emotions you’re feeling when you’re facing the prospect of incarceration because I’ve felt them too—fear, uncertainty, frustration. And on top of that, I’m fueled by the pain that I felt by being unprepared for federal prison: I don’t want anyone else to go through what I (and my family) went through.
Round-the-Clock Support: I’m Here When You Need Me
Many consultants offer advice but keep regular business hours, disappearing when you need them most. When you work with me, you don’t have to worry about that because I so clearly remember what it was like to be up worrying at 2 AM.
I provide support seven days a week and have built my reputation on being accessible. I know how crucial it is for clients to feel supported, not just before prison, but throughout their sentence. This kind of support is what you need when navigating the challenges of the federal prison system, and it’s what I deliver. I also make a habit of being there on your most important dates, including sentencing, to ensure you and your loved ones have support on-hand during what you may feel are your most difficult days.
High-Profile Success Stories: Proven Results
You may also be interested to know I’ve built a track record of working with high-profile clients in some of the largest white collar cases in recent years. This means that I’m familiar with the unique challenges presented to clients who face sharp media scrutiny and complex legal battles.
Handling these high-profile cases has sharpened my skills and refined my approach, and even includes assistance with things like online reputation management to help you take back control of your personal narrative.
Focused on Getting You Through and Back Home
At the end of the day, my goal is to get you the best possible outcome. Whether that means helping you secure placement in a more favorable facility, reducing your sentence, or guiding you through the process of early release, my focus is always on results that help mitigate the pain felt throughout this process for both you and your family.
I’ve helped clients get out of prison earlier, secure prison placements that offer more favorable conditions or easier visitation for loved ones, and set clients on a path to reintegrate into society successfully. I’m not just here to get you through prison—I’m here to help you move on from it and rebuild your life.
